here are some photos that i have taken with my phone which show how hard it is to actually be good at photography (weasel you git! ).
the first eleven are touristy ones from times in london, the others are random bollocks.
if i could be bothered i would risk finding my pictures i have in print and scan them but frankly it isn't worth the effort.
there's some really nice ones! the fender one is sweet, nice focus and wierd cool lighting. and that last one is pretty trippy
but my favourite one is the 5th one down, great composition. Have you got photoshop? rape that image a bit in photoshop and you could have something pretty tasty. (if you dont have photoshop i can show you an example of what i mean)
EDIT: ok, hope you dont mind me posting this. but photoshop is such a good tool for post-processing your photos that anyone who is into (or wants to get into) photography should get a copy. I guess it's a subjective thing as to how much you should post-process, but I always like to see some colour and contrast in a photo

i like what you have done on that picture, i am guessing you just pissed about with the contract and brightness? or did you do something like colour tints? i haven't got photoshop as i find my pictures aren't worth editing and not really being arsed to learn all its functions. also photoshop used to be a right memory hog on my computer.

No-one who's had photoshop for over a week touches the brightness/contrast. Even Adobe hates it, that's why there's no keyboard shortcut! It's all about curves and levels. _________________ www.martinfalconer.co.uk
lol, as elmo put it so subtely, curves and levels are the best way to give your photos more punch.
The trouble with changing the brightness and contrast is that you can end up losing a lot of the detail in highlights, midtones, or shadows depending on which way you are changing the picture.
Personally I don't quite understand curves in Photoshop, but Levels is easy to get your head round and really helps with post-processing photos.
Image > Adjustments > Levels (Ctrl + L)
Basically it shows everything that is dark on the left, middle tones in the middle, and white on the right. So if you move the left arrow more into the middle, it will make the darker areas of the image even darker... move the right arrow to the left, and it will make the light areas even lighter. Hopefully this example will help.

i see what you mean, might investigate in getting myself a 'copy' of photoshop in the future. i think what puts me off is that i have no knowledge of the program really and it confuses me when i know fuck all about something. give me a spreadsheet and i am away though!
here are a few more photos that i have taken which i have found stowed away in the depths of my hard drive.
that last one is well nice i could do with some of them lights to play with.
if you are interested in doing more with your photos then deffinetely get photoshop (whichever way you get it!). Get the hang of levels and straight away that's all you need to do a bit more for your photos. _________________ Can't stop the bum rush!
curves are an essential part of photoshop. a simple s- curve will enhance detail in the midtones, shadows and highlights.
you can also dramatically effect the mood and atmosphere by playing about specifically with the dark and light tones and it is the most accurate way of really producing the right feel for you picture.
a small amount of unsharp mask as the final adjusment to the image will really enahnce an image, or a specific image that you wish to be a main focal point....but it is kinda essential to do this as a final adjusment because data could be lost if there is much editing afterwards, and too much will cause 'halos'
get photoshop, its the king _________________ leave with your enemies

Since I'm still using a version of Photoshop from circa the industrial revolution, I'm not up on all the new gizmos... But levels, curves, channel mixer and Lab mode (for black and white), are all easy ways of making spiffy images.

i have got a hold of cs3 but i am still not as good as getting the levels right like you can, will take some practice, might have to get the camera out if i start going out on the bike more, can go find some nice places.
edit: as the weasel mention raping pictures in photoshop, i thought i would participate in sticking a rather large rusty pole past the sphincter of the picture he liked!

You can adjust levels and apply filters in GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). This is a free download (under the GNU Public License) and will mean that you don't have illegal software on your computer. Check it out if you can't afford a Photoshop license:
