tristar, i did mean 35mm, a bit of a typo there!
i know what you mean weasel, i was actually meant to be making a joke there, maybe an emote should have been used. i do totally agree with you on what you have said though, the only thing for me with digital is that too much can be done to a photograph in something like photoshop. touching up and adding different filters are fine as they are little things but people tend to go over the top and either make the photo into something it wasn't or something that really doesn't reflect how good their photography skills are. a good thing about the digital age is that it has given a lot more people access to photography and the ability to not just take holiday snaps but good photo's without having to spend huge amounts and cameras, lenses, filters etc.
i like your shot of king street there. i wish my photos weren't taken on my phone now as they aren't such high quality, maybe i will post them up here anyway as people would get the jist of them. _________________ -one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter-

I know most will never admit to it, but somewhere in the mind of all photographers, particularly pro photographers, is a treacherous, insecure little vioce that watches the Canon ads on TV, watches the price of a full-featured 10MP fall within range of any hobbyist, and says "Damn! Now anyone can get the gear!". The fact that you have a fine digital SLR and maybe a lens or two no longer means that you can simply charge £15 an hour just to turn up.
Good, I say, because I once met someone who charged that to turn up and photograph a friend's band in the studio with the same camera and long zoom as me. Apparently this was a special price because the singer in question was "a mate". The photographs were somewhere above shit, so they were't paying for Mick Rock or Kevin Westenberg.
I did the whole b/w crash course too - I loved the prints, but I couldn't be doing with all the darkroom paraphernalia. For all the noise, film grain, and channel-driven b/w-ing I add in PhotoShop though, I still can't get a print that looks like a b/w photographic print. I might try using those sites where you pay 5p a print for your digital shots - printed on a Fuji machine that uses a photographic process and paper. Anyone tried it?
Not taken any proper photos in months - teh Weasel has inspired me!

haha, it's true While I know i'm one of those people (just not pro fuck). In an ideal world the per hour charge would be based on the photographers skill at taking photos (or lack of) but yeah a lot of people do get work (especially in wedding photography) just because they have a few lenses, yet so many of the photos are average at best.
Where I work we have one professional wedding photography who gets all his stuff printed from us. He charges £900 for the day and ends up supplying them with about 200 9"x6" photos. The cost of getting those photos printed from us is a fraction of that, and keeping his equipment maintained is only another small fraction. But his photos are quality, and he's fully booked up for the next 3 years. I've forgotten what the point of this little story was.
crazzyeddie, i know what you mean. I've been playing around with this tool in photoshop in Image > Adjustments > Black & White which allows you to try out different b&w presets which is really interesting. And through this i've managed to get these 2 photos looking a lot better in black and white. I'm using photoshop cs3 at the moment though so I'm not sure if it's just in the latest version or not.
its all about medium format... hasselblads the king!
well i recently took some photos at my cousins wedding with my nikon d80 and printed them of using the most awesome of fuji light scanning printers at uni, and iv gotta say i think my photos turned out better than the ones she payed a "pro" wedding photographer to take.
alas i shall try my hand at getting some work over the summer, i go dirt cheap, just wanna fill up my cv and portfolio _________________ leave with your enemies
