.....It was a disaster really. What with one band not turning up, us only taking something like 7 people with us, and the other band not taking a SINGLE person to watch them.
One thing we`d like to say though, to try and help the venue on nights like this, is that when the room is practically empty and there isn`t a crowd to soak up the sound a bit, the overall volume is WAY too loud.
Painfully so infact. We just couldn`t stay in there to watch the other band, it was THAT loud.
We appreciate that sometimes you can only set the volume by how loud the drum kit is.
Hopefully nights like this are few and far between, and the vast majority of the time the excellent PA system can be used as intended.........but when they DO happen, is there really a need to mic everything up?
It can put people off staying in there.
We did a gig the night before in a pub that wasn`t used to having live music, and were told by the landlord we were far too loud when we did our sound check. (there was no one really in the room at the time).
So we had to start at a pretty minimal volume, but as it was very comfortable for people, the place started filling up. No one walked out.
When there was a fair few people in there, we decided to do a very quick sound check at a louder volume and it was great as the people had already been attracted in.
What we`re trying to say in a bit of a long winded way is, if there really isn`t much of a crowd in there, why not only have the bass drum and vocals going through the PA, then if the place does fill up a bit, you can always do a quick check with everything going through.
Even if it doesn`t fill up, at least you will keep the people who ARE there in the venue.
We want to apologise to Charley, but we are only trying to help with what we have just said here. It`s only what alot of customers would be thinking when they walk into the venue on a night like that.
Of cousre it should. But to have the volume of a packed waterfront or arts centre in a small room with one person in is too much for anyone.
Trust me.
As you weren`t there (I know that cos there wasn`t anyone there) you are not really in a position to comment on the night.
Anyway thats the last we`re going to say on the subject.
Everyone has their own opinions and all that.

Their PA hasnt got the capability to be too loud in that room. It does have the potential to be poorly EQ'ed, but then so has any PA.
