Yeah dood do it. I liked your sets when you DJed a while back.

I agree with the one song thing - sometimes your requests don't get played, and that's fine, especially if the DJ has a strict song list made up. Any more thoughts on the request list on the night? If a DJ is stuck for a song to play, then have a peek at the request list and cross it off if they play it. Hopefully then you get no repeats and a handful of happier punters.

But the bums on seats thing is spot on. The point of Wraith is to make money to help keep the Waterfront open. The more people that enjoy themselves and return each month can only be a good thing. I haven't been to Rawkus in years because it was moving more into the emo/punk/indie rock sound - does that have a good turnout?. Wraith used to be far more metal and industrial and it used to be rammed every time. The punk set clears the floor EVERY TIME. It doesn't have to be obscure music that disappoints people, but music that people don't expect to hear... (the UEA union site says that Rawkus = Sk8/punk/emo/nu-metal and Wraith = Goth, Metal, Rock, 80s alternative).

Just to say, I'm not a music snob (I thoroughly enjoy prancing about to A-Ha and Bon Jovi at 80s night), but I just wanted to know why Wraith persists in playing Green Day. Wraith has the potential to be a great night, and I know there have been awesome nights there over the years, usually after many drinks and ace tunes. Don't stop doing it! Smile

I started Wraith 10 years ago because of my love of alternative music, my love of drinking in nightclubs and the fact that at the time there was fuck all else to do in Norwich.

I always said that when I stopped enjoying it that would be it, no more wraith. Now its become a chore because of all the bitching and moaning, I really can't be arsed anymore. Maybe last week was my way of destroying it?

Greenday was played at the first ever Wraith and it will be played at the last ever. In fact we played alsorts of weird stuff to begin with, lots of old indie and electronica too, it was a real alternative mix, not a boring, tired old metal night!

I make it out to the waterfront very rarely these days. I used to be a dedicated visitor to Wraith but due to work etc I rarely make it there before 1am if at all. I did notice a change in music when I went this time though (bearing in mind I haven't been for a good few months), there did seem to be quite a lot of punk rock. I'm not having a moan, I just remember the time before that I went, there was loads of old skool rock/metal etc played in the last half hour and the dancefloor was packed! I didn't get there til late (as usual) so you may well have played all that sort of stuff earlier but that was what I remember the music used to be like. I'm not saying play the same music every month coz that would be shit, but it did seem a bit tamer than usual. Only what I observed, not meant to be a criticism. Gag

Happily, if they'll let me!!

There'll always be people bitching about it, that's what norfolk people do lol!!
In all seriousness tho, hundreds of people enjoy it every week or they wouldn't go, surely they're more of a reason to do it than the few moaners? Bands have the same trouble, there'll always be someon who hates you, but you do it for your self and for the people that DO enjoy it!

Wraith sells out pretty much every month. The dance floor is nearly always packed around midnight, and hundreds of people have had a great night over the years. For it to just stop because of a few internet people whinging about Chris playing Green Day would be a disaster. If you don't like a song, or even a whole set, there's still 3+ hours of other awesome stuff to dance to. Maybe it's just me in my old (yeah right) age, but I like a break from all the headbanging now and again, and enjoy the traditional few hair metal tracks just as much as the crunching riffs of Pantera or Machine Head.

It's a great thing you have here Darksiders, show some gratitude and don't let tiny things get your panties all bunched up.

OK if you're referring to me, then I was just voicing a concern and probably a biased view of Wraith.

There are good nights and bad nights, but on the whole, I've enjoyed more than I've not, so I'll definately keep going.

And nothing wrong with hair metal either!

P.S. However, I will always find a way to moan about Green Day,so don't take it personally Wink

I wouldn't blame you if you jacked it in mate, would be a shame to see the institution that is WRAITH disappear, but I guess when all you get is whingers cos you happen to play a GREEN DAY song then it's a poor show.

I remember when we used to do WRAITH at ZOOM, that was a good laugh.

The one I sort of remember was CYPRESS HILL single promo-night, (yes we even played hip-hop at WRAITH and nobody complained Neutral ) when I drank a litre of JOSE CUERVO GOLD to myself. Cuckoo

I've never been so ill. Disappointed

Whatever you do mate, make sure you're happy with the decision you make, that's all that counts.

Cheers

That was a great night, kept 4 bottles of the stuff at home and had several very drunken episodes.

The Zoom days were brilliant, people were up for fun and didn't take themselves too seriously. They were just grateful that they had somewhere to go, meet their friends, drink and listen to some ok music.

Rawkus and Chains both began doing sets on Wraith nights and now look at them.

That's completely true.

In any one night there was hip-hop, goth, metal, punk I seem to remember, the place was always pretty much packed out too.........

I think the trick with any night at the waterfront is to get absolutely munted before you go, that way you won't care what's playing anyway and you'll dance like a loon to anything.

Cheers

More hip hop stuff would be ace. I remember when there was more stuff like Cypress Hill and (hed)pe (ok not hiphop, but close I suppose). Play more of that by all means!

And I wasn't having a go at the whole Green Day thing and Wraith per se - I just hate Green Day so they came to my mind first!

Yeah getting wasted first is always a plan, many a fucking funny night was had (cue stories of absinthe, and IFWF Chris getting twatted on a litre of Omega tramp cider). Although I have taken to driving to Wraith, drinking water instead as it's always fookin hot and having the luxury of driving home and being in bed in about 15 minutes. Awesome.

Ahh, you see that's where you're going wrong young Rob, you NEED to be thoroughly munted to get the most out of club night.

In my experience, anyway....

If your sober, and believe me I've done it, you just notice all the drunk people having fun, and then the insidious resentment sets in that you can't drink because you have to drive home........

I say as an experiment, get yourself totalled on cheap cider and weed and get yourself down to WRAITH, I'm sure you'll have a blinder!!

Cheers

The good thing about Zoom was the fact that the seating area was away from the dancefloor. people could chat with their mates and the music was kinda secondary. At the Waterfront its just one big fucking dancefloor with no seating to speak of, the music is the main focus so if you play something crap or fuck up everyone knows about it.
