It's a bit of a rubbish stat. Gatwick (W. Sussex) hit 36.3C, Wisley (Surrey) hit 36.6C, which are the highest recorded individual temperatures - but that's just the peak the themometer hit, not the average. Crawley (next to Gatwick airport) was only about 33C average; central London was around 35C, which I don't think is all that different to normal. Those peaks could just be freak readings, maybe a bird shat on the mercury bulb or something.
The only purpose the peak tempreature really serves is as an excuse for people to start acting like retards - like worker's unions deciding to try and get a law passed on a "maximum working temperature"; so if the temperature gets to hot everyone gets the day off work, just because it's a bit muggy outside.

I like working in a nice air conditioned cinema.
We'd better get some awesome storms from all this hot weather! _________________

So, to answer the question:
I try to stay cool by wearing light clothes which still cover me properly-arms included, by doing my best to stay in during peak hours (tough when your lunch hour's dictated but easy for the rest of the day), by drinking lots of water and by cunning use of a parasol where possible.
Mostly the usual sensible stuff.
I also drape a scarf over the steering wheel and gear stick as I swear I've actually burnt myself on them this week. Seriously, WHY do they make steering wheels black? _________________ [Likes Japanese boys and still listens to A-ha]

I dont like ht weather. Yesterday i got through about 4 2litre bottles of water and sat in shase or indoors alll day and i was still feeling dry. All that happens is i get hot and swaty and then vomit up everything i eat. This is why i fucking hate summer it should be baned and replaces with a second spring, Nice but not so hot.
