the long time promise r after a new website. i know shit about websites and done our old one on a moonfruit template.yeh.....
anyway, would like something real simple but effective. i have a picture i'd like to use as background for the main page - then jst a gigs page, band page, and a music page.
a link to an email address too.something real simple but i cant do it.tried using dreamweaver and photoshop but am stumped, so would appreciate any help.
having a decent (even simple) website made is a lot of hassle, so I doubt unless you've got a mate in the business you'll have any luck. what about updating? can you comfortably update the pages and ftp them to your site? or are you after someone to design you a content managment backend to? _________________ Free Music

Too late man, I've already made their site for them
(EDIT: Bah, beaten to it!)
As it happens, the actual content is stored in .txt files and loaded into the actual page with some PHP - so updating the page is simply a case of editing the .txt file, using some basic HTML to format the text (line breaks, bold etc.). Thanks to the wonderful world of MySpace etc. most people can do basic stuff like that now. The idea is that if they screw up their updates, the actual site still works because they never touch the layout - you just get some odd formatting in the content pane.
I think using a CMS would be slight overkill for a 5 page band website...

Also, it'd probably be better to include .php files, as they can't be downloaded by people!
All I put in the files is plain HTML - even if they were PHP, if you put the filename in the address bar you could get the code, so I'm not sure there's any real advantages to it (in this case that is). It will also make things slower because the PHP has to be parsed by the server every time you go to that page.
Besides, because the PHP that reads the file never reaches the user they don't know what the content file is called. To them it just looks like a normal page, and whatever is in the external files get written into the main PHP file before they get to see it, so unless they've read this thread, most people won't even realise it's being done.

There's a really good php extension called CUTENEWS which basically allows you to do all this, BUT i think it even allows editing via a web based interface, making updates even easier for the slightly more technically challenged!
