HI you lot, I just replaced an old desk top pc with installing Windows XP ser 3. But now have found out for some reason the pc won't play any sound.

In the pass when I needed to do this I would put in the windows xp disk, and find the 'Device Manager and double click 'Sound, video, and games controllers' then right click and down load software for one of the audio .
Then the audio is show running the filing in to the pc! Within a fews minutes its loaded it on, and the small 'speaker appears in the botton right hand corner of the desk top screen, when I close down pc, and reboot I am able to listen to sound.

However every time I do that now, the following info appears,
Hardware Update Wizard, Cannot continue the hardware update wizard.
'The wizard could not found a better match for your hardware than the you currenitly have installed'

Then at the foot of this pop up, ' Chose what you want to :
To keep the current software, click 'Finish'
To search again in another lococation click back.

Then I get the message:
The wizard has finished installing the software for:

* Audio codecs

Buyt when I switch onto listening to llive radio on and sound, nothing comes out.

For the record the is yonks old about 1999, but its cool because when I want to listen to bands or online radio, the whole pc is so quite, its does spoilt you enjoying.

So gang any ideas, please .......................Thanks

off the top of my head it maybe that your pc hasnt installed the xp audio drivers for your motherboard (presuming you have on-board sound). i would have a look at what your motherboard is and do a quick google search for xp drivers for that motherboard. if the pc is super old it may not have xp drivers tho :S

could be wrong but id try that first if it was me Smile

Probably what T has said in that XP doesn't support the audio device you have in your computer, especially if the base computer is from 1999, I'm surprised it's even able to cope with XP.

Thanks for help, but think I know what happen. Well picking things I think when I switched the hard drives as I put the power connection in it shorted the fuse in the power unit. So I remember a pc course I took at Basildon coll (not just for all those sexy chicks learning) replacing fuses which could fuck up the sound card. So I found an old sound card, and replaced it and the pc found the new 'audio plug'.

Anyway thanks again.

That makes absolutely no sense, unless you switched hard drives when the PC was on, in which case you deserve what you get Very Happy

And I never knew that Basildon college was such a hotbed of nubile young quim. I sure hope Dave tells us some stories of his crazy, but safe, fun. Gang!
