I guess a pedal like the Boss RC-20 would be the nicest solution - not very cheap and cheerful though. If you have a laptop I was wondering if you could rig up some kind of USB footswitch. Alternatively, raid the Samplers section on Ebay for the cheapest thing you can find and hook up some cheapo keyboard to tread on...

Agreed the boss rc-20 looper is a good solution, you can pre record several samples on to that wee bugger, still make 80-100 quid second hand though or depending on the length of the sample a lot of delay pedals can do a few seconds and loop em. _________________ www.myspace.com/washedupimshitfaced
You might find there are some cheaper pedals with a sample triggering option if you can't stretch to a Roland LoopStation. In fact I had an idea my Zoom 708 II could do it. Oh yeah, here we go:

Up to 6 seconds of your favorite guitar sounds or musical phrases can be sampled through the AUX IN. Using an optional 128 MB Smart Media card, the sampling time can be expanded to 32 minutes. Using a foot pedal, sampled sounds can be played once, or looped indefinitely. Built-in data storage is 16 bit uncompressed high quality sound. You can slow down the replay speed of a sample up to 25 percent without changing the pitch - excellent for phrase training.

Thanks BJG, that info is sound!
I must admit I like the idea of the Zoom pedal. Reviews on it are most favourable, apart from the I/O jacks. I'm handy with the soldering iron so not an issue.
I'll keep my eye on the samplers too and see what they end up doing.
(Other thing you can try is doing advanced search / title and description for "sample" etc within the Guitar FX category and check out stuff like this...)

Hi Guys,
First thing, thanks once again for all of your help!!!!
Next up, I went for the Zoom BFX708 II pedal in the end. I checked out the pros and cons and decided that this was the best option for me, and what was the first thing I tested out, yep, it plays samples Not sure if I will use the other sound FX built in other than the compressor and the ZNR but they are there if needed.
