I think it was a good move*, he pretty much destroyed his party in the first couple of questions. Although the downside is there are the few xenophobic idiots who will agree with him. I don't think he could have made a much worse job of it if he'd tried
*not because i think these people should be given a voice but because they will damage themselves more than anyone else ever could.

Like I said in the Random Irritations thread, I think the people who were protesting are as brainless as the members of the BNP themselves - it's exactly the kind of reaction they thrive on. The best way to deal with attention seeking idiots is to ignore them as much as possible, and then treat them like the idiots they are when needs be.
I really think the hysteria over his appearance was ridiculous, and largely insulting to the British public. I happen to think a lot of the people in this country can be complete morons a lot of the time, but I still credit the vast majority of them with the common decency to accept people for what they are. I really don't think putting that wonky-eyed fuckwit on TV is going to makes thousands of people suddenly go "fuck, he's got a point - that holocaust stuff does sound kinda far-fetched... maybe the blacks are all bastards after all...".
Exactly as I predicted, he was made to look like the fool he is - he had to avoid answering the difficult questions, gave childish short answers to the rest, and even when he was trying to join in like an adult he ended up looking like an ignorant twat. As far as I'm concerned, it was the best publicity they've ever had.

Unfortunately, last night should have been a clinical execution of the BNP through laser-like dissection of their policies and moral values. Simple.
Instead, we got a panel of party representatives telling us how non-racist they are and competing to show who hates Nick Griffin the most.
The BNP apparently have a million voters, who were not given a chance last night to tell us why they voted for the BNP. These are not simply all going to be people who dislike people with different skin colours. These are people in areas with no jobs and no money who are feeling insecure about their futures.
These people need a platform to express why they chose to vote BNP, so that we in turn can carefully and patiently explain why they're wrong.
Having a show of "Nick Griffin, you're rubbish, Nick Griffin!" "Yeah!" isn't going to dissuade those voters.
Maybe a formal interview is what's needed.

i'd agree with pestilence, he should just be ignored & left as a sidelined insignificant party forever more.
That being said, eddies point over poverty is pretty proven - the state Germany was left in after the 1st world war led to severe poverty & it's common in those environments for people to just be hateful & racist - hitler certainly got support. _________________ http://www.hamptonguitartech.co.uk/

i missed it last night, but caught all the hype.
freedom of speach, freedom of expression, freedom to believe what you like including what mr. griffen stands for, is part and parcel of being in this country.
to say he shouldn't be on there is pretty much on par with what the bnp says about foriegners -send the buggers back- .
now we've sent many hate preachers out of our country, but this one is here to stay.
remember, you dont have to listen to him, you dont have to be weak minded and be talked into voting for him. _________________ still lowering the average iq since 1975
The thing about fascism is that it is insidious, in the sense that subtlety is the only way they can bring round people to their beliefs. Griffin is a nasty piece of work and I suspect his true views and agenda are very sinister indeed. Extreme parties only gain popularity in times of political or economic strife, such as hyper inflation in pre-war Germany and their favourite thing to do is turn people against each other such as Griffin's comment about Islam and how the Nazi party demonised the Jewish race.
Fascism should not be censored but confronted. I think that there has been too much said on the topic in the news. I wouldn't invite the fuck round my house or shake his hand but a political debate show is perfect to show him up. It's freedom of speech and I think the protesters really scored an own goal in hurting police outside BBC centre. They really need something better to do in the middle of the day instead of being violent and stopping a legitimate political debate that showed griffin for the conspiracy obsessed, racist that his really is.

the daily telegraph done a poll of just over 1300 people after the show. 22% of them said they would consider voting BNP now. maybe he has a point on some things, like british jobs should go to the british people. Maybe less money would leave the country and less british would be unemployed. im not saying i agree with the extreme extent of his ideas, i definately dont, and i do not believe the debate should be centered around his rasisit ideas, but with some things i believe he may have a point. Try telling the thousands of unemployed brits that giving jobs to foreigners instead of them is a good idea and that foreigners deserve the british jobs as much as they do! i wonder just how much money gets sent out of this country to the countries of the imigrants each and every month? apparently this country will borrow 127 billion pounds by the end of this year, bringing its total debt to around 800 billion. a chunk of this is due to the extra money going to unemployed people on benefits...
