I bought my own mic as soon as I started singing. I didn't want my mouth to end up that close to some dented piece of kit that could have been down the previous band's arse crack for all anyone knows _________________
I've been away for a couple of weeks but just noticed this post and thought i'd enter the fray. Fair do's if you don't agree with my views but this is just my thinking:
1. Norwich is lucky to have a good few little venues that we can easily host shows for free with ease as well as a few bigger venues to get to, compared to some biggish cities with hardly anything.
2. If you have any doubts, just bring your own equipment to use, or at least mics and extras. Venues should be able to cope but what if something should fail? Equipment doesn't last forever and backups might follow suit.
3. Why not hire your own soundguy if you're that worried about sound? B2 are trying to train their soundguys but wherever you go, you might end up with someone having a bad night. Hell, even the UEA, Waterfront and Arts Centre have a shit sound at times.
4. Yes the venues aren't perfect, but what good is it to moan about them unless you' have a lot of money in your attic and a big plot of land that you just so happen to fancy spanking a venue on.
I'm not bitching, only, i'm just as bored by the usual venues, the constant moaning and typical problems but what seriously is likely to happen? People stop using B2, then they go bust, one less venue? What good is that going to do?
There are worst venues than those in Norwich.
Sure you had a bad night, but use your optimism to right the wrongs of the gig and make the next one better.

I totally agree!
The point is, we were told that we didnt need mics and the management of the venue was pretty awful that night. The soundguy couldnt apologise enough, he was in way out of his depth. I do think the b2 could be a good venue, but there has to be changes there to make it more professional, they have the site and the equipment, if the gear was properly maintained and the engineers were sharper they'd be onto a winner

Well as a promoter, i'd see about hiring a soundguy to do it, and then bring everything you're more comfortable equipment-wise. I think the B2 has minimal management because they expect the promoter to run the night.
Talking of the B2, we're hosting Secondsmile, Colour, Caesura and Fun!Yeah! there on September 17th - hopefully the sound will be okay then...

Wish I had the cash to get my own wireless, the Beta 58 is around £330
I think I may have one of those, a freind acquirred it along with another wireless mic, a wireless guitar system and all sorts of other goodies from his old place of work. _________________ -one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter-

Did I say £330? I meant a tenner. Send it my way, Scotty...
