Anyone else hear it on Zane Lowe tonight? Whadda ya reckon?
Not quite sold myself, but it's on the right track.
I though they might have got the wrong record on to start with, really sounded like a Linkin Park intro or something. Even when Hetfield started I didn't think it was him, but it got going and he started to end every line with "-AH!" which was a welcome return. Sounded kinda like something off Load or Re-Load but really badly produced - lame guitar sounds and a distorted snare drum, but that could have been sh!tty radio reception or my headphones buzzing.
The song went on a bit and descended into a load of riffs strung together, like on Stanger. The riffs weren't great and at times the lead stuff sounded like they couldn't quite play it fast enough, like on Stanger. Bit of a shame because it was quite promising nearer the start of the song, but it harped on for just shy of 8 minutes (7:56 I think he said) and I didn't feel like it was really progressing or going anywhere for a lot of that time, like on Stanger.
It sounds like I hated it and I've just slated it, but I didn't and that wasn't my intention. I just haven't been able to think of anything much good to say about it. I'm definately going to have to hear it some more to really pass judgement, the first few songs on Stanger aren't as bad as I remembered them if I put it on now, but the rest of the album is just filler to me (but I really haven't ever perciviered with it).
All in all it's a bit more like what I wanted to hear, but I'm in the minority who liked Load and Re-load.

Eh? One of the big criticisms of St. Anger was the lack of leads/solos...
Which song was this? I've heard a couple and they're all right... unfortunately with a back catalogue like Metallica have they'll never live up to expectations. It may well be that it was a live rehearsal-style recording I guess.
The length is definitely an issue - all the songs on St. Anger were a couple of minutes too long, just adding and extra cycle of all the riffs on rather than progressing the song. The old songs were long because the structures were huge; the new songs have like three riffs, they don't need to be that long.
And I standby my opinion that Hetfield's voice is shot.

Okay, it's not a 'live' recording, the single has been released to radio stations... it's called "The Day That Never Comes".
I can't believe it's a final release, it clips all over the place, the guitars bottom out and aren't in time in a couple of places (I see what you mean about the leads), the snare is rattley as Hell, and Hetfield is auto-tuned to within an inch of his life... I'd be pissed off with sound like that from a £50 recording.
The song is quite cool though, there's a couple of sections I really like. Hopefully the mix will be altered by the time the album is released, from what I've heard it could be quite good.

I'm pretty impressed by this song. I can't comment on the production criticism because I've only heard a dodgy youtube recording of it through one earphone, but it sounds ok.
I'm pleased to hear some dynamics and some guitar harmonies which they haven't done for a good few albums.
Generally albums tend to contain much better songs than the ones that get chosen for singles, so I'm pretty optimistic about this album. It sounds like a heavier multi-riffed version of the Load era sound. And I also liked the Load albums, so that's a good thing. _________________ Metal is our Religion
Have I just woken up pissed, or did a certain Mr Pestilence just agree with me? What's going on with this forum??!! (wink wink grin - I hate smileys)

Yeah, +1
Like I said I wasn't trying to slate it, and like Steve said there's a lot to live up to for bands like Metallica - I just can't understand why their productiuon values seem to have dropped through the floor! _________________ www.myspace.com/draglineband www.myspace.com/thestanton
So it appears there was a fuck up production/mastering-wise on the version radio stations have been playing. I've just seen a live version of it from Leeds/Reading that sounds better than the radio version:
From the bits and pieces I've heard, it's definitely got a Load/Reload feel to it, but with the riffing from their early days too - it could be a great mix. I'm kinda looking forward to it, but trying not to just in case....

I fucking hate Metallica, it's not because their music is now shit but their whole attitude to money and their fanbase. I have heard their new stuff and I just think they have run out ideas and will shit out anything because they know their 'fans' will buy it because their 'Metallica'.

Should be "they're". It's a contraction of "they are". *wink wink*

And this is relevant how exactly?? point is metallica oops might wanna put a capital m for Metallica so some pedantic twat doesn't correct me. Honestly spelling properly doesn't make you a clever person, especially when you are correcting people on some shitty, gay assed forum that people argue on because they don't have the cahonas to do so in real life. Or maybe in real life people would get halfway through one of these bullshit "debates" and say "hey you know what this is utter shit lets talk about something better", I'm sure people wouldn't feel the need to correct a dyslexic person, honestly there are more important things to worry about in life than getting all analy retarded over a spelling mistake.

Twats!
Jesus have a sense of humour, surely the *wink wink* implied that it wasn't to be taken seriously?
By the way, it's spelt "anally", not "analy" _________________ www.myspace.com/uktravel = new band
