As you know I don't normally feel the need to justify Wraith, the legacy of Wraith says it all, but......
all this respect, when in fact Wraith was created for purely selfish reasons..…..In 1994 there was nowhere to go to enjoy the music I liked and the people I liked to be with, so i invented my own night for my own entertainment. Luckily a lot of other people seemed to be of the same mindset.
The first official wraith was at Samanthas (above the old Festival House) in the summer of 1994, although I had put on several one off nights as long ago as 1991. I moved to Zoom in 1996, in the days before myspace, and spent hours of my life wondering the streets of Norwich handing out flyers and putting up posters. Also arranging promo nights with record companies and giving away shit loads of freebies. Oh yeah and the endless reaction sheets I had to fill in to remain on dj mailing lists in order to bring yet to be released songs to the punters, many of which went on to be classics (some not)
Then onto the Waterfront in Jan 2000. Wraith is still the Waterfronts busiest night, even after all this time.
I've always tried to get new (younger) blood involved with Wraith and I appreciate all the work that these people do, including the myspace page which I couldn't be arsed to do!
Over the years I have let so many dj's have a go, some of whom have gone on to form their own nights, Jimmy James - Rawkus and several dj's from the UEA SU who later formed the Deviant Society and Chains on Velvet. I've seen, and encouraged so many people to start their own nights and many have come and gone.
We get slagged off by the purists, but I'd rather have 200 people dancing and singing along to Korn than 10 black metalers looking lost. I still have fun, the other dj's have fun and the 1000's of people that have come to Wraith nights over the years have fun to
I have never slagged off any other night in my life, all respect due. I’m not sure what Club Confessional beef is, they had Norwich's premier metal night on their website before the night had even opened, maybe that was a tad presumptuous.
Wraith has won its right to be where it is now and I will let the people judge whether its 'premier' or not.
Wraith never assumes and is only as good as the crowd it gets in.

Haha, what a bizarre thread - 14 replies, and most of them about which disco is more important... Fact is, virutally every club night in the country calls itself "The Premier [GENRE] Night in [CITY]". It has nothing to do with how long a night has been running OR how good it is; it's just empty marketing.
You're both fighting for the same side - quit bickering over such irrelevant details, and concentrate on trying to improve the dire alternative scene. There's seven nights a week - that's plenty of space for two decent metal nights.

Now i will not speak for another 5 years.
Thanks
All this writing and not so much as a 'Nick was the best DJ I've had the pleasure of working with' or indeed mention of my sterling work on the Cypress Hill 'Tequila Sunrise' Promo night where I drunk the best part of a litre of Jose Cuervo Gold!!!!
I agree with you, Wraith is a household name and more often than not we go and enjoy it! So im not slagging you off in the slightest, the alternative crowd in norwich is minute so being able to consistently pull a decent crowd is great, well done!
What I am beginning to be irritated by is 'promoters' mud slinging across the city, whatever happened to other promoters at MEDIA is nothing to do with us, we left of our own accord to pursue other ventures, if other alternative promoters failed at MEDIA its there own doing not ours, so why people are feeling the need to blame us i'll never know!
