I had a listen and here's what I think.

The music is very good, nicely played, good production so a big thumbs up there. Smile

The one thing that ruins it for me is the vocals.

They're totally one dimensional and to be honest they detract away from the song. They're just annoying really.

They just don't sound good to me and ruin an otherwise good band from that listen.

No offence, just my opinion.

Cheers

I am impressed.

great production and sound.

Great sounding snare, kick may be even a little too in-your-face and punchy but it still sounds amazing.

great guitar and bass tones too. And the vocals are awesome as well, anyone who says otherwise is missing the point really.

have you by any chance been listening to kidcrash?? has a similar feel to them, particularly with the vocals and outro section.

more please! will definately be buying the EP

I wasn't really missing the point, I know what screamo is all about, I just think the vocal styling is a little one dimensional.

Cheers

hey man i know what ya saying, didn't mean nowt by it. i guess I am just so used to hearing contrived generic metalcore/hardcore where it's just standard shouty verse, growly chorus, melodic bridge, grindcore breakdown with pig squeals etc.

But i totally realise what you're saying, it is a completely legitimate criticism. i don't doubt you 'getting' screamo at all or anything like that so please don't take my statement as any kind of attack on you, your opinion is as valid as mine and anyone else's.

you have to agree about the great production though, really come on since the last set of recordings

hats off maths!

Several people have commented on that. I too believe that the bass drum is a bit high in the mix, but to be honest, we're not sure if it's worth making such a minor change. We'll see though.

i agree with peoples comments on the production - very nice. bass drum seems a little bit too "out there" in the mix, but thats all personal preference.

i'm not a massve fan of the vocals, but i can see they work. nice guitar work too.

all in all, b+

Haha, I don't think you did get what he was saying; his whole point is that the vocals have no depth and no variation - which is exactly what you're complaining about in metalcore Razz

The kick is fine at the start, then gets too loud after 15 seconds. I'm guessing it's triggered right? It really sticks out because it's so dry. I've got a great little VST that adds some room sound which will make it sit in the mix a little better - PM me if you're interested.

The vocals are perfect for the style, they just sit up a bit too much in the mix I think (though they're better near the end). I think they need to be fighting against the music in this style - think Thoughts Of Ionesco - but because you're a decent engineer you've given them space. Normally that'd be great, but I don't think it suits this so much.

The guitars are a bit fizzy for my tastes, but distortion sounds are very much a personal thing. I'd like to hear it with a slightly more twangy tone though, like Unsane have - a bit less gain would bring out the sound of the picking, which would make it sound meaner like you're really pounding the strings.

Personally I wouldn't compress it any more, it's already squashed to fuck - a really gentle limiter would get you the same result, and it wouldn't kill the snare either.

You've definitely got this style down though - I'd say you're probably the best around here. I'd love to hear you work on something with more subtle dynamic shifts.

Steve

Haha... ignore all that then Wink

I think I know who you mean though - it explains the kick, he uses the same samples on EVERYTHING. I knew it sounded familiar.

Not my kinda thing, but it's a good recording and a solid performance.

Hey Steve, thanks for the comments. I was wondering, is there anything you would recommend to make the whole recording sound a bit less dry? I just feel that perhaps it's not quite noisy enough.
Thanks,
Matt
