 connecting windows vista via wireless

hey all, i'm trying to set up our housemates wireless. she has windows vista on her laptop and it syas its connected to the internet, but neither internet explorer or firefox will connect.
however, she is able to talk on skype.
it doesnt make no sense to me at all, and the laptop is in german so its hard to understand anything.
i tried putting in the IP address manually using all the details i have from virgin but no such luck.

any ideas???

mine (vista) just connects in the same way as XP, it finds the nearest networks......you shouldnt have to do anything different just because its running vista - cant help, sorry

Sounds like DNS settings if it can connect to skype but not a website.
