I just recently bought an Aerodyne Jazz bass and I love it. However, Today I put new strings on it for the first time and The A string is buzzing against the 1st Fret like mad. It's really annoying. Is it possible that this is an issue with the Nut groove being too Deep?
I'm Kinda annoyed because this was a brand new bass....Also, I adjusted the truss Rod the day I got it completely Fine, but a week later I was no longer happy with it, so i tried to adjust it again. But this time the Truss rod seems totally unresponsive, i can give the nut like 5 turns and nothing will happen.
Also, It seems like my Tone pot has absolutely NO effect on the tone of the instrument, although it is working electronically, as i've tested it with a meter and it's working fine. anyone got an idea of what's wrong with it?
I hope someone can help, I'm just hoping this isn't gonna need sending back to the shop, as I bought mail order and I just don't have the time to fuck around with returning it.

Er, you turned the truss rod nut FIVE TIMES? You're supposed to adjust it like a 1/4 turn each time.... _________________ Keep up with local events and plug your own gigs!

Eee-gads! 5 times! You're only supposed to turn it 1/8-1/4 at a time and leave it at least an hour to settle in between. You'll end up with a neck like a banana if you carry on like that.
A buzz at the first fret does point to a nut height problem. This can usually be fixed by one of either removing the nut and 'shimming' it with a piece of cardboard before putting it back on, or getting a luthier to fit and file a new nut for you.
Neil Roy from Dragline does electrical work if you want him to have a look at the tone pot on your bass. I'd get hold of him to have a look at that issue.
If you don't feel happy doing any adjustments then I'd recommend finding a local instrument luthier or take it to Cookes for their tech guy to have a look.
Yeah, I know the truss rod adjustments seem a little exessive but I've honestly tried everything. At first I adjusted it and waited a while, but nothing. It just did nothing So I took it to extremes. Looking down the neck now shows it really has still done nothing.
Words cannot explian how thoroughly fucked off I am at fender right now, you would have thought that for £570 you'd at least be getting something that worked well for more than a month.

Truss rod adjustments are meant for serious fine tuning and you are going to have to really crank it some to get rid of 1st fret buzz.
In all fairness, a great deal depends on the user too - if you treat a guitar badly for a month (I'm not saying you have) it'll play like shit. I seriously hope you haven't stripped the thread on the truss rod otherwise you are truly fuckoed. _________________ Keep up with local events and plug your own gigs!

The bassist in my band has the same bass and while they sound good and play alright they have pretty awful build quality!
The nuts are always cut too deep on these it seems, you can cure some of the problems by putting in a string retainer bar or string tree for the A and E strings.
Dont adjust the truss rod, just have a new nut cut for it.
