I've been trying to download something for my brother from fileplanet and seems to be a broken file when I receive it, it's a 600meg file. I'm thinking a download manager like Getright or something would be the solution?

theres a ton out there and I trust some of you know more about them than me so, which do you swear by?

I'm running XP and firefox.

I haven't used anything other than the Download Manager built into Firefox since I installed it. As an alternative solution, have you checked for another mirror for that file nearer the UK? If it's not an illegal download, what are you trying to download?

Furthermore, how do you know it's broken?

its a the client for ultima online, a 15 day trial thing, a bunch of his mates from school play it and as my dad has just got a DWI I thought it would be a good way to keep in touch.

I've downloaded the fucking thing about 4 times now, the main problems seems to be patching it.

the version fileplanet hosts is an old version hence everytime you install it and go to play/login this patching program starts. it seems completely random as to when the patching fucks up for every installer that i've downloaded they all stop patching at different times. The one I downloaded most recently must have almost finished because it was working on patching it an hour more than any of the others, but then alas it gayed itself. which leads me to think that the installers may be missing files that the patching thing needs. I've tried looking for support on website but haven't really heard anything it could be.

sorry that turned out to be a long explanation.

Yeah, couldn't be bothered to read it.

I installed BitComet for torrents a while back and it seems to adopt most of my downloads now. Can't complain.

The only 15 day trial I can find is for an Ultima Online: Kingdom Reborn expansion pack, which you'll need the full version to run. Are you unwittingly trying to install an expansion pack without having the full game?
