we have virgin media set up in our house, and sometimes it just decides not to work.
we have the virgin media modem connected to the main socket on the wall that brings the cable service to the house, then we connect our belkin G+ MIMO router to the modem. all good, but at times it just stops working, and my Mac's IP address changes and wont connect. only remedy is to take all cables out and plug back in and its fine.

just wondered if there was a permanent remedy as its annoying at times!

We have VM and occasionally our net access dies as well, and we just have to turn the modem off and on again, think it's just one of those things.

Sames happened with both wired and wifi network.

We're on Virgin here too - and so far (touch wood) we've had no problems like that at all. Saying that, I stole my parents' BT router... the modem we got from Virgin was worked fine as far as I remember though.

Do you use BitTorrent or other P2P technologies through the router? My router hates loads of incoming connections which are often seen with P2P networks. It just crashes my router, I can't connect to anything at all, and I have to reset it, upon which it reconnects and it's fine.

If not, it could be a Virgin media thing, but if you can connect via wires to your set top box and it works uninterrupted, then it's got to be your wireless router somehow.
