afternoon all,
i have got a bit of a problem when it comes to ripping my cds to mp4s for use on my mobile phone (sony ericsson k800i, i use it as my mp3 player). i currently rip them using nero but there seems to be no id tags on the mp4s so when it comes to playing them on my phone they come up as unknown artist, thus i have to create a playlist for every album but selecting each track, it takes far too long.
does anyone know of a way around this so that the detail tags work on the phone?
any help i appreciated.
thanks,

Aye, MP4 is an odd choice of format - it's a catch-all and not an encoding format really, you can use it to store audio or video (even with subtitles and stuff I believe) in pretty much any format. Audio saved as MP4 will still probably be encoded as MP3s anyway.

i just find that the mp3s encoded at such a low rate don't have as good sound quality as the mp4s when played through my k800i.
will try that out froggy, thanks. _________________ -one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter-

Er, then rip the mp3s at a higher bitrate, or VBR (variable bit rate)? _________________ Keep up with local events and plug your own gigs!

i only have a 1gb card for my phone and i like a good selection of mp3s, hence the low bitrate. _________________ -one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter-

correct me if I'm wrong but a mobile phone isnt exactly going to do your tracks justice anyway....

depends on the qaulity of the mp3 encoding, when i am listening to music through the headphones on my phone with a 192kbps encoding, it is the same as listening to a cd through my headphones. _________________ -one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter-

192kbps is nowhere near CD quality, and it really depends on the headphones (as well as you own ears!) you have as to whether you can hear the difference.
CDs are 16bit recordings at 44.1 kHz. That's 44100 16-bit 'words' per second. WIth a bit of maths, that works out at 705600 bits per second. Your mp3s are at 192000 bits per second.

Like I said before - mp4 has nothing to do with the actual encoding algorithm. An mp3 and mp4 at the same bitrate are encoded in exactly the same way, so the quality whould be all but identical.
as for the tag thing - make sure your using ID1 tage and not ID2. Some mp3 decoders don't like the ID2 tage because they take up too much room.
