So the other day, I put a new sound card in my computer and when I turned it on again, my screen had a refreshing blue tinge to it. Lovely as this change was, I rather liked being able to see colours such as red on my screen.

I know it's not the monitor itself that's the problem because when I press the monitor setup menu button, the little thing comes up in real white as usual. So it must be something in the computer or between the computer and monitor.

I guess I must have knocked something or whatever, so does anyone have any ideas about what I might have knocked and what I can do about it?

I believe it is the monitor's response to all the shoes in your new house.

Just make sure your monitor cable is plugged in properly.

The menu is built into the monitor so the colours are set, but the actual desktop picture comes through the cable - so if the cable isn't in right, you can get funky colours. If the monitor itself was bust, the menu would be fucking up too.

I'm pretty sure thats why monitor leads have the little screw things on them, because if they do get knocked you can get some weird stuff going on - whereas most things will just not work.

If it's an old lead, the cables inside can become fragile and break so you end up with some funky colour and picture issues. Try a different cable.

Invest in a pair of glasses tinted red/green to filter the blue tinge. Of course everything else you see will be tinted another colour, but relax; it'll give you a whole new outlook on life!

Yeah, ^that^ too. I've had acouple go where they've sat in one position for ages and then when they've been moved they've broken.

And it may even cure any underlying ADHD issues you have! Very Happy

Uh huh, maybe the broken lead thing is it then. I've fiddled with this lead and changed it round so the end that was in the monitor is now in the computer and it's no different, so i'll try just getting a new lead

When we get these at work it's usually a bent pin in the lead between the base unit and the monitor.

A new lead hasn't made any difference.

So i guess it's the actual socket or something. So it's a choice between sending it back to Acer for ages or having a go myself and raping my warranty up the arse

Try taking out your graphics card and putting it back in again, making sure it's seated properly. Failing that, try and get your hands on another graphics card and see if that makes a difference.

have you installed the graphics card driver correctly and are the settings right? as froggy siad, it could well be that the card isn't seated properly, i know that my agp slot is pretty shitty to get it in correctly. also if you are screwing the card's metal end to the case it may have lifted the end of the card?
dust anyone.....

If the graphics card was in right before he added the sound card, it's pretty difficult to move them (bastard lock-things) - though obviously it's still worth checking.

Could just be a bust monitor - but the fact the menu displays correctly still makes me think it's the other end that's going wrong.

Aye - same thinking here.

If it's an older spec board, some don't have great AGP locks, and some have none at all.
