...I've been wondering. Do us 'alternative' types (for want of a less shit term) have a dedicated bar? You know, a place we can while away our afternoons. Basically I'm looking for a place I can go to where I dont look a total tit being by myself now and then, but from where I can gradually get to know people who a) like the music I do, and b) aren't total wankers. So for example, in Newcastle I was a regular at this place: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&ref=ts&gid=7742913057
So yeah, is there a nice central hub for us rock fans, or are we spread out all over the place, in which case I just have to try and strike up conversation with people wearing cool t-shirts in the street or something :p
I did suspect that since Norwich seems to have about 3 million pubs, the chances that any one of them would serve this particular function would be quite low. Still, I have heard the name the Marquee a couple of times so maybe I'll check it out.
Also check out Hades Bar and the Bridgehouse on Prince Of Wales road. They're definitely both 'alternative' venues. Oh - and the King Edward 7th on Aylsham Road tomorrow night if you want to see a massively incredible band!

You haven't mentioned - The Brickmakers!
Depends how rock you are - 70s / spit and sawdust or Noughties / Haircuts and Urinal Cakes (which is actually a good song name, hmmm)....!
I've never really considered the Brickmakers as much of an alternative pub, yes they put on gigs and stuff but the day to day clientel of the place is just locals from around the area with nothing better to do.

ha, to be honest I dont like to affiliate myself with either scene. I just like the tunes. I'm as happy listening to black Sabbath as NIN as Fall Out Boy as Down as Faith No More as, well, you get the point. My problem with hades bar is that it seems to be very closed whenever I walk past. Is it actually just open a few hours on a Friday/Saturday or is that just the way it seems!?
Going to a gig or two may be a good idea really, since you dont seem to be quite as much of a tool going by yourself to one!

The mischief is pretty cool too, and the waterfront on a Friday or Saturday night usually has 'alternative' nights or ska nights which arnt bad. _________________ I find great amusement in the consequences of my actions!

Hades opens at 9-10pm depending on the night. There should be a poster in the Gallery section that outlines the different nights there. There are a few popular nights (but I'm not going to name names as I DJ for one!)
I was drinking at the Bridgehouse for a short while last night, and I really don't know why I don't drink in there all the time. Great atmosphere, good rock music, friendly, they have bands there, and it's close to the centre of town. Everyone should go there and try to get the old scene back! I still like the Marquee though, and the back room hasn't sounded better for gigs, and some proper good bands play there now! _________________

Man that party must have been good if those were the goodies(can you sense sarcasm in a written message?) although my wife said she would speak to you just because you have cheese and pineapple sticks. Aha. I personally think cheese and pineapple on a stick is weird.
At least there was a get together, the closest thing we have had here was the closing down of the Ferryboat!
