Anyone seen it yet?

I thought it was fucking immense. Not the best film ever or anything but the story was solid and the action sequences were the best I've seen in a few years. It looks and feels like the battle-torn future that has always been referenced to in the Terminator series. I won't ruin it for you but there is some Bale/T-800 action which is totally 1984.

I'm a Balehead, but Sam Worthington totally showed him up in this movie. Bale was excellent as he was in The Dark Knight, but as in The Dark Knight he was out performed by a co-star.

Seriously. Go see it. Revenge of the Fallen has to be brilliant now, otherwise my summer will be ruined.

Man, that really was an awesome film. Yeah, some good post apocalypse scenes in there. Much better then Star Trek in my opinion, but then I'm a hardcore fan so I knew I wouldn't like it Wink

For a 12A i didnt expect much, and it was pretty good....at first, then the last hour kinda sucked BIG ONES. Ending it in a terminator factory/foundry pissed me off, thats the ending to the first 2 terminators, then when the molten lava poured on the T-800 it didnt melt, unlike in T-2 when Arnie lowers himself into it, then Bale froze him by jetting cold air or some shit, and I swear i was expecting him to say something like hasta la vista and shoot him, but luckily they didnt or i would of walked out the cinema. The film seemed full of plot holes and annoying unlikely situations. Better than T-3 though.

***WARNING, SPOILERS!!!***

Dude, were we watching the same film?! I don't have time for a FULL rant, so here's a summary:

Good

- The visual effects were the best I've seen in ages and the whole 'look' of the film was great. I couldn't differentiate between animatronics and CGI, and I'm super picky about the quality of FX in films.
- There is a very cheesy cameo that will make you go "YEAH!"
- The Terminator bikes are even cooler than the Tron Lightcycles.
- I can't fault the action sequences and there were some impressive "how did they do that?" camera moves, most notably near the start where Bale crashes the helicopter.
- Some of the new machines were sweet, and they kept the old stuff like Turret guns and Hunter Killers.
- It had Michael Ironside in it.

Bad

- Universally awful acting (apart from the guy playing the young Kyle Reese, who was the best thing about it but quickly becomes absent for most of the film instead of the super-important protector of John Connor).
- Some of the worst dialogue you will ever hear.
- Was there a plot beyond 'Rescue Kyle Reese and don't get killed'?
- You already know that Sam Worthington is a machine if you've seen the trailer.
- Pointless characters that did nothing for the story, such as the little mute girl - why was she there? Oh yeah, she pulls a lever at one point.
- Worthington's inability to maintain an American accent.
- The less said about Christian Bale, the better. Did they remove his personality and charisma before filming started? John Connor is supposed to be a Messiah-like legend of the future, not some boring, grunting douchebag who does fuck all for most of the film apart from speak into a radio occasionally. And get beaten up a lot. BALE FAIL.
- The ending is one of the cheesiest pieces of cinema you will ever see.
- The score was completely nondescript; where the fuck was the Terminator theme?!
- I was extremely disappointed to learn that the filmmakers opted to give the faceless malevolance of Skynet the human personality of Helena Bonham Carter.
- The fanboy references to the earlier Terminator films felt forced and were completely stupid. When Bale says "I'll be back" the whole cinema pissed themselves, and not in a good way. They even shoehorn 'You Could Be Mine' by Guns 'N Roses in immediately afterwards. Oh, McG.
- It's full of some of the most ridiculous plot holes you'll ever see. When Bale jumps out of a helicopter over the open ocean and somehow ends up in a submarine moments later, for example.
- I didn't give two craps about any of the characters.
- The tapes of Sarah Connor that John listens to don't sound like Linda Hamilton speaking, for some bizarre reason.
- I don't understand why the Terminators don't actually, you know, TERMINATE their targets IMMEDIATELY when they come across them in this film. For some reason, when the T-800 finds John Connor it decides to beat him up a bit first instead of just breaking his neck/crushing his skull and WINNING THE DAMN WAR IMMEDIATELY.
- More importantly, instead of using Kyle Reese as bait to lure John Connor to Skynet so he can be killed, why not, er, just KILL KYLE REESE RIGHT AWAY?! No more John Connor. Skynet wins!

I'd say go and see it as it looks great on the big screen and despite my bitching above, isn't so awful that it doesn't deserve a viewing. Just vastly lower your expectations.

I think it can be summed up best by a Harry Knowles' quote: "it’s a piece of shit that occasionally looks really good."

I haven't seen the film, but if it's the one I assume it is, it's not even a proper cameo - it's made from leftover bits of Rise Of The Machines.

As for Bale having no personality... he never has had really. The thing that made him so great in American Psycho is the fact he's completely passionless - everyone put it down to good acting when unfortunately that's actually just him. He's exactly the same in every film - the only thing he's ever changed was the *croak* Batman/Lemsip advert voice *gravel*

I quite enjoyed the new Terminator film. And I'm very much looking forward to the new Transformers film also.

yep. cgi. totally pointless cgi at that.

I lol'd like a total moron at the references/homage to the original films, and now i wish i hadn't.

I thought it was pretty entertaining, but it fucks me off when there's no skullcrushing from a machine that can apparently twist a gun barrel/withstand lava onslaught/throw shit really far.

I am past caring whether the humans win or not now. I can't really see a possible premise for another movie, only more pointless references and stupid subplots about emotionally flamboyant cyborgs.

the time travel thing is fucking retarded too. why don't they just go back in time and do something to prevent the war in the first place?

oh yeah. shit.

Why don't they go back in time and kill Sarah Connor's mother? Think outside the box, Skynet.

It shall be!

Best thing about T-4 was young Kyle Reese, spitting image of Michael Bean.

Also the noise that grabby termiator made was awesome!

That film was fucking laughable.

Christian Bale delivers his lines with all the finesse of a stroke victim.

"How many survivors left?"

"WUuuuunnnnNN!"
