From January there will be a new course running at Access To Music Norwich in King Street for people who want to improve their Music Theory knowledge. This course is open to the general public as well as current students.

The sort of things we will be looking at are:
Reading stave music
Developing listening skills including intervals, notes, chords, rhythm
Developing knowledge of harmony, chord progressions and rhythm
Understanding how to relate what you hear to what you write
Using Notation Software

Everybody is welcome, and you don't necessarily have to have any previous knowledge of music theory.

The Who!

The sessions will be taught by Martin Scaiff who is the CMP3a yeargroup and keyboard tutor.

The Why!

There are so many advantages to improving your music theory skills that its difficult to list them all, however the main ones include:
The ability to communicate with other musicians
Being able to sight-read
Giving you ideas for writing and interpreting music
Hearing music in a new or different way
Its a bonus when applying to further or higher education music courses

The Where and When!

This will be a 3 hour session, once a week for 25 weeks, with each session costing £4. At the moment we haven't decided on what times/days the sessions will be as we will try to work it this out between the tutor and the students, though it looks like it will be one evening session of 3 hours. It will be run here at ATM Norwich King Street.

What to do next!
